Apple Farmer Annie written by Monica Wellington is a seasonal board book with fun educational opportunities. This story follows a little farm girl, Annie as she grows and harvests the apples from her own orchard. She bakes and cooks a variety of fall-themed tasty treats and then sells the remaining apples at the market. There is sorting and counting, object-naming, sign identification, and even counting involved in this text. This book is one of my fall favourites because it’s a story about an apple farmer with a modern-day twist as it is told from the perspective of a female farmer. This story makes a great read-aloud and your young audience will be sure to love the bright and colorful illustrations that leap out of the pages. This is also a great book to use as transition into a cooking activity. Follow some of the recipes suggested in the book such as making applesauce together with your children to celebrate the arrival of the Autumn season.
