Start your adorning DIY afternoon project by thinking of nice things about the special someone whose door you’re decorating. Begin by putting hearts on your child’s door every morning with the things you love about them throughout the month of February.
It’s plenty of fun to think about everything that you love about your children. It can be an adorable attribute or something you love seeing them do. You can even do this for your partner to show them just how much you care and appreciate them.
Step 1: Gather the materials needed. Red and pink construction paper, wrapping paper, scissors, tape, and a marker. Click here for additional crafty options.
Step 2: Cover the door with wrapping paper (cut around the door knob).
Step 3: Create 28 hearts by folding construction paper in half and cutting half of a heart away from the folded edge.
Step 4: Write adoring messages on each heart to represent a compliment a day.
Step 5: Stick a heart on the door, one day at a time.
By the time Valentine’s Day rolls around, your loved one(s) will know exactly how much you enjoy their endearing qualities just by glancing at their door. It just doesn’t get more personal than that.
So take the time this coming month to show your family how much they mean to you. It may take some time if you have a bigger family, but it is so worth it! Save these love notes as heartwarming reminders as your child(ren) grow to one day look back on and reminisce together.

If you decide to spread some love outside your immediate family, then say I love you with more than just an ordinary card. Try your “hand” with this fun and easy card-making idea that involves minimal mess and materials. Just dip each of your family’s thumbprints in a nontoxic vegetable-dye ink pad. Then firmly press onto a folded piece of cardstock. After, draw stick figures with a fine-tip black marker. Lastly, write the message “Thumb-body Loves You” along with a personal message and salutation of your choice.
This unique gesture of love is guaranteed to be a huge hit with all of its recipients. We chose this as our Valentine’s Day card to share with our friends and family when our son was too young to craft anything handmade himself. It was our way of involving him, and an opportunity to get his first piece of artwork.
Thematic photographs are another creative way of celebrating a holiday. In the picture collage featured above, I added a couple of the few I took of my son to mark our first Valentine’s Day together a year ago. These photos were simple to orchestrate and we managed to snap away some precious keepsake moments to cherish.
Happy Valentine’s Day!
